Keith is the lead developer of an open-source library used by IT companies worldwide for system development. He has genius-level coding skills and truly loves the act of programming itself.
His code is so heavily relied upon that many global services would crash without it, but because he releases it all for free, he has no income to enrich his own life. Keith's activity is highly respected and noble, but it is an "Integrity" state where only the economic cycle is missing.
Advice for those in the "Integrity" state
"Integrity" is defined as a state where you are talented, pour in your passion, and are highly demanded by society, yet you lack only financial abundance due to the absence of a monetization mechanism.
To move closer to "Ikigai," you need to fill the missing element of "Paid For." Although you are deeply fulfilled spiritually, there is an eventual limit to self-sacrifice that holds noble poverty as a virtue. To continue providing your wonderful activities to society over the long term and on a broader scale, an economic cycle is absolutely essential. An urgent mindset shift is required to understand that "earning money is not impure".
You must seriously engage in building a business model that accurately "cashes in" on your value—such as stopping free services and setting appropriate prices, introducing a subscription model, systematically raising sponsorships or donations, or bringing in management and marketing experts as partners. Financial independence is precisely what will make your activities even stronger.
