IKIGAI Framework
Indulgence

Diagnosis Result: Indulgence

Riding luck and trends to wealth without a foundation of skill or contribution: A state of pure indulgence.

Explanation

You "Love" it and get "Paid For" it, but lack the foundation of skill ("Great At") and social significance ("Need"). You enjoy yourself and earn a high income, but you aren't helping anyone and lack true professional ability. It is a self-satisfying, playful state of success, achieved merely by riding the times or finding a loophole in the system.

Position of "Indulgence"

Venn diagram

Example 1

Alex is an influencer streaming outrageous prank videos on a popular social media platform. As an attention-seeker, he finds filming videos fun, and he earns exponentially more than his peers through ad revenue.

However, his planning and video editing skills are barely above an amateur level, and his content provides absolutely no use to society. Alex's activity is classified as an "Indulgence" state, raking in bubble-like profits like a playboy without a foundation of true capability or contribution.

Example 2

Kyle uses inherited assets to day-trade trending cryptocurrencies. He loves the gambling-like thrill and is glued to his screen every day, and having caught a bull market by chance, he is making many times the profit of his peers.

However, he lacks professional financial skills like chart analysis and relies entirely on luck, nor are his trading activities helpful to society. Earning bubble-like profits without a foundation of true skill or contribution, Kyle's activity is classified as a playboy-like "Indulgence" state.

Advice for those in the "Indulgence" state

"Indulgence" is defined as a state where you enjoy yourself and earn a high income, but lack the foundation of professional skill and social contribution.

To move closer to "Ikigai," you must fill the missing elements of "Great At" and "Need." You are currently enjoying a temporary bubble by riding on luck, trends, and systemic loopholes; this state carries the risk of instant collapse if the environment changes. While this affluent situation (having time and money) continues, you should urgently invest in yourself to acquire solid, professional skills (Great At) that do not rely on luck.

Additionally, it is incredibly important to move beyond self-satisfying activities and adopt the perspective of how your actions can solve the struggles of others or societal issues (Need). By changing your mindset from a mere "prominent consumer" or "lucky player" into a "producer who provides value to society" and cultivating true capability, you can transform a fleeting indulgence into a lifelong Ikigai.
